Although on Jan. 30 I wrote about how much of a “smoke screen” the Phillies were in the Bryce Harper free agency saga, writing how I thought Harper’s agent Scott Boras was using the Phillies to take the superstar’s talents to a preferred location. Even stating that there was a “very good chance” that Bryce Harper wasn’t interested in coming to Philadelphia.
Luckily, I couldn’t have been more wrong in that piece.
The love affair between Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia fans has been off the charts in the first week of the MLB regular season. Including things like the roaring ovations during the opening series against the Atlanta Braves, the bow to the fans in the right field seats and the Philadelphia fans venturing down the Nationals Park (Citizens Bank Park South) to support Bryce from the anticipated boo’s from the Washington fans.
It is important to note that Bryce Harper, .385 BA/ .556 OBP/ .846 SLG/ 3 HR/ 5 RBI/ 10 BB, will hit a slump in the 162 game season even though he has been on fire the kick off his career as a Phillie.
It’ll sure be enjoyable to watch the relationship between Philly’s new adopted son and the crazy fanatics in the city and around the world. My personal hope is that the “Bryce Bow” is a daily thing for the next 13 years!
